FAQ
Have questions about our Heat Recovery Ventilators services? Find the answers in our list of FAQs. Contact our office for more information.
What does an HRV actually do?
An HRV (Heat Recovery Ventilator) allows your HVAC system to swap interior with exterior air without losing heat to the outdoors, keeping your air fresh and your system efficient.
How often should the filters be cleaned?
HRV filters need to be cleaned (not replaced) every 2 to 3 months. Be sure to check the manual for the best way to clean your system’s filters – some can be vacuumed.
Is an HRV the same as an air conditioner?
No, an HRV helps to maintain your home’s temperature while bringing in fresh air. An air conditioner cools the air in your home. HRV is used in the winter, and the A/C is used in the summer to cool the air.
How often can I run my HRV?
HRVs can (and often should) run 24/7 on a low vent speed in the winter only. Many models offer a high-speed setting for when you need more circulation.
Does an HRV use a lot of electricity?
Not very much. About the same as an incandescent light bulb. High-efficiency models can use even less.
Does an HRV help with allergies?
HRVs filter incoming air to remove large particles like pollen. They can also help reduce humidity, which can reduce dust mites and mold.

Kate was phenomenal, explained what the issue was, how it was caused, and how it was corrected, and left me with clear instructions in case a follow up was necessary. So glad I chose Affordable Heating and Cooling
